This hydrometer works like any other and the tube it comes with is a little larger so it works great for holding samples.
The down side to this hydrometer over lead ones is that the steel shot is held in with some green goo which melts. I used mine for testing 145F wort wile sparging. I then laid it on it's side and now it floats at a slight angle Though it still works fine I'll stick with the lead ones for high temps

It works. It's triple scale. It's five bucks. Some people seem to break theirs, but if you treat it like it's made of glass ("carefully" is the word we're looking for), you will probably avoid glass shards in your beer.
