a complex and intensely flavorful beer. Comes with fermentis US-05 yeast.

    When the guys say its a big beer they mean it. Normally use 2 gallons in a 3 gallon pot. used about 1 and 3/4 and barely, and I mean barley, got all the ingredients in without boiling over. Also, when the instructions say add all the grain to the ,muslin bag, don,t add the oak powder. The result is great however. The other reviews are spot on. If you like stouts then you have to give this a try.

    I'm a huge dark beer fan, almost to a fault. So far among the True Brew kits I've brewed the Oaked Stout, the Nut Brown, and the Witbier. This one (the stout) is absolutely awesome, one of the better stouts I've ever had. Great head, almost guinness-like, black, and it just gets better and better with age. I had it in the primary for a week, and in a carboy secondary for about three weeks before bottling. It had a pretty strong oak flavor for the first couple weeks after bottling, but after three weeks in the bottle it's moderated a lot and is now very balanced. Age is definitely something this beer needs... All in all, this is a brilliant kit, and very doable for pretty much any beginner brewer. This was my first post-Mr. Beer kit, and I had no trouble at all.

    This kit is wonderful. Slightly more involved than a beginner level ( I am a beginner) but easily followed instructions made for a great end product. It's dark, full of flavor and the longer it ages the better it gets.
