Product Description

New Lower Price!! The Yeast Hog 1000 now comes with the Stir-Starters Economy Stir Plate.
Same functionality at a much, much lower price!!

We've all heard the mantra from the "brewing gurus"
Pitch more yeast....It's all about the yeast starter, man, etc.
Well, you know, they are right. Homebrewers have a tendancy to under pitch their yeast (meaning not adding enough).
Higher pitch rates absolutely result in shorter lag times, faster and more complete fermentations and cleaner tasting beer.
And that is a very good thing.
Now you can pitch big, with the Yeast Hog - Yeast Starter Lab.
Comes with everything you need to get started (heh)
(This kit intended for 5 gallon brewers, the kit for 10 gallon brewers is coming soon)

Includes:

  • Stir-Starters Economy Stir Plate
  • Teflon Coated Magnetic Mini Stir Bar
  • 1000ml Borosilicate Erlynmeyer Flask
  • #8.5 drilled rubber stopper

  1. Best Deal Around!

Posted by Diggy on 20th Oct 2011

Looking to snag this product at a cheaper price? Better make it yourself.

There's a neat DIY quality to this product, but it works great! I left it on for a couple hours last night filled with water to see if it would the throw the spinner. I tested it at various speed for extended periods of time, and it was only thrown at max speed.

There's a great deal of pride in this product. It comes with an instructional sheet from the manufacturer and Rebel themselves. And the packing was very carefully done; my Erlenmeyer arrived in one piece.

I also thought the "keeper magnet" to keep the spinner from being decanted into wort was a nice touch.

If you're looking to improving your beer, this is a great step in the right direction!

  2. Great Intro to Yeast Starters

Posted by Shannon on 17th Jan 2011

I had tried to build a starter or two in the past with the shake method. It was too much trouble. Usually I just pitched a pack of dry yeast or used a yeast cake. I couldn't afford a yeast stir plate and honestly just didn't have the time to track down the resources to build my own. When I saw Rebel Brewer's Yeast Hog, I was set.

I've had it for about two weeks and have built three starters. I love how easy it is to just heat the flask directly on the burner. What I haven't mastered yet is avoiding boil-overs, but I call that user error. In general, everything is very positive about the product.

The only gripe I think I have with the Yeast Hog is that I have to carefully set the speed I need. At max speed, the stir bar will rotate off from the center of the bottom of the flask to the outer edge. The first time this happened I didn't know it and I was afraid the item had already broken. Now I know just to put it about halfway to max and that will keep a good, constant vortex. Higher speeds may be necessary or usable in larger flasks. This isn't a real problem, but learning it took several tries of playing with the speed.

All in all, a great product. I don't have any other baseline to compare the stir plate to, but for the price and the purpose, I strongly recommend it.
