Product Description

Fits 3, 5 and 6 gallon glass carboys. Top hole fits an airlock or racking cane. Typically I've seen these used to start a siphon
by putting the racking cane through the middle tube and blowing in the other tube until the liquid starts to flow out. OK, fine,
whatever you think about blowing into your fermenter. I wouldn't. But I have seen another brewer (Phil) who will put a racking
cane through the middle and attatch a shop vac to the other tube, creating a vaccum that draws the beer from his boil kettle (and
through his counterflow wort chiller) down the racking cane into the fermenter. Again, you are on your own if you start brewing
with a shop vac.

  1. If Phils vac scares you....

..then this shouldn't...much. I use one of these with the addition of a S/S Racking cane through the top, a double barb and some CO2 line with a flare fitting on the other outlet. The other side of the cane has a flare fitting and a corny liquid quick-connector.

The short story is that I push the finished beer from the carboy to the keg using this cap and my CO2 rig. If I evacuate the keg first with CO2, this provides a totally oxygen free transfer from carboy to keg. Not too shabby.

    SAFETY NOTE:
You should never never ever pressurize your carboy. If you choose to dance with fate, make sure that the cap can blow off the top of the carboy before the thing explodes and only use one or two pounds of pressure. Dial it up from zero just enough to push. Don't walk away. Never affix the cap to the glass in any permanent way. Also, be cautious when dry-hopping, if you block up the dip tube, you'll pressurize the carboy and *fwoosh*. Use the racking cane tips.

This is a standard piece of gear in my brewery and is easily cleaned. Much better than using the siphon starters or other gravity feed devices.
